A Graphic Designer’s Trip to Iceland
I’ve always wanted to visit Iceland. Every picture I saw seemed so unreal. Varying terrains, a multitude of colors, what more could you ask for? The dream finally came true in 2018 when my girlfriend and I jumped on a plane. Here are some stand out locations and photos from our trip.
Landmannalaugar Highlands
We loved every minute hiking, exploring and taking pictures around Landmannalaugar. It was incredible, full of colorful mountains, snow, lava fields and geothermal hot springs.
Sólheimasandur Plane Wreck
After a cold walk in heavy winds we came upon the United States Navy plane wreck. Located on the black beach in South Iceland. It was definitely worth the journey.
Skógafoss Waterfall
The Skógafoss waterfall was incredible. It’s one of the biggest waterfalls in the country. Tip: if there are too many tourists, take a hike up the mountainside and wait it out with some amazing views.
Búðakirkja Black Church
Another location that was high on our list was the Búðakirkja black church. Don’t forget to walk down to the beach while you’re there.
The Open Road
We rented a car for 90% of our trip. I had to remind myself to keep my eyes on the road because the landscapes were so visually appealing.
Dyrhólaey
The views at the Dyrhólaey lighthouse were unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Jaw dropping panoramic views.
And our favorite part of the trip was when we caught the sun partially setting over the Black Beach in Dyrhólaey. Not to mention a brief encounter with a puffin.
Overall, it was one of the best trips I’ve ever taken! I’d highly recommend Iceland to anyone who loves the outdoors.
